Energy Facts
THE NEED TO REDUCE OUR ENERGY CONSUMPTION
Now more than ever, we need to reduce wasteful energy consumption. Rising energy prices, greenhouse emissions, and greater energy demands around the world leave little room for wasting our precious resources. We need to reduce energy consumption now.
- From 1985 to 2000, electricity prices rose, on average, by 1.1 percent per year.
- Since 2000, electricity prices have increased at a 2.5 percent annual rate.
- The U.S. inflation rate is 2.0 percent annually.
- Electricity consumption is expected to increase another 45 percent by 2030.
- The costs of generating electricity are rising.
- Infrastructure investment costs are growing.
- Environmental compliance costs are significant.
- Price caps set during industry restructuring have been phasing out since 2004
GLOBAL WARMING
- Average global air temperature near the Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.3 ± 0.32 °F) during the past century.
- The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.
- The world's dependence on fuels that produce CO2, nuclear waste, or other harmful byproducts has reached disastrous levels.
- It will take decades to change the global infrastructure, so the need is immediate.
- If we reduce harmful Greenhouse Emissions, we will reduce Global Warming !
